    If Aluko’s out until the end of February, that’s six league games as the fixture list stands, although the Charlton match would move if we get through in the FA Cup.

    The priority should still be a centre forward to play alongside Aluko on his return. For five or six matches, we may have enough in our ranks to cover for Aluko, an opportunity for Simpson or Stewart to grasp (though by the sounds of it they didn’t last night). I wonder if Cairney could play the Aluko role, dropping into deep forward positions as well as having a shot on him.

    This may also now be the time to move Koren back to midfield where he’s likelier to contribute goals. We could need them if the new forward pairing doesn’t instantly work out.
