I did wonder if the pitch has been having any bearing. The slick control, passing and dribbling displayed last month, against Watford and Leeds for example, may be more difficult to achieve on a bobbly pitch. So too maintaining tempo and performance on a heavy pitch more tiring on the legs.
However, it’s up to the manager and the players to adapt to the conditions. They can’t expect to play on a carpet of a pitch every week of a season so they must have variety in their play.
